PROSTYLING: CINNABUN

Hey All! Hope everyone is having a fabulous hump day :) I came across this style while looking for a quick and easy updo for a friend's bday gathering. I like that it keeps the ends protected and gives a nice little twist option to the regular Puff.

I attempted to do this style for the gathering, but since I was running HELLA late and didn't have any time to experiment, I took my hair and made 4 flat twists, pinned the ends together and came out with a cute bun-do. I'll definitely be trying this in the very near future though.

I like this vid, the idea of putting the some rolls in the middle makes the style more interesting *my2cents*

Here's another version I like just as much.

And you can definitely jazz it up with a flower, headband, anything! I love styles like this!

NEW 'POO

Hey All, I'm in the market for a Clarifying Shampoo for Type 4 hair. I know I don't need another product, but something, I haven't figured out what yet, has been leaving serious buildup on my scalp.

Right now, I'm using Herbal Essence's Hello Hydration 2-in-1 which I really like, to cleanse, but I seriously need to add a Clarifying 'Poo for times like this. Any suggestions??

BAGGIE-ING

Looking for a way to seal your ends? Try Baggie-ing. It's really easy and I've tried it a time or two and it's kinda cool (minus the fact I used WAAAAAYYYY too much Shea Butter).

All you do is twist/braid your hair (or not), add your moisturizer of choice to the ends, pull it back into a single ponytail (or multiple if you like), put a sandwich baggie (or plastic cap) over the twists/braids and secure with a ponytail holder and VOILA!! You're done. I did mine at nite the next morning my hair felt super soft. I'm still working on just how much to use.

Here's what mine looked like:

TO STRAIGHTEN OR NOT TO STRAIGHTEN...

BREAKING NEWS: I have a job interview in my future career field!! I'm so excited I can't contain myself. That was until the guy at the post office pissed me off by not selling me 1 freaking single stamp at 4:31pm b/c they closed at 4:30 *BREATHE* Anyhow, I was discussing the deets with my mom and she further pissed me off by saying "I hope you straighten your hair, it was so cute." (Referring to my hair here) I was OUTRAGED. I was like "Um, I'm not doing that. They see me everyday, so why would I change my hair for an interview?" She says, "Well you don't want that to be the reason you don't get the job do you?" And I said "Well my hair has nothing to do with my capabilities and if it does then I need evaluate whether or not I want to work there." With that being said, I graciously got off the phone.

Now, my mother is....very traditional when it comes to hair. So I guess I should've seen it coming, but I didn't. I'm not second guessing my decision NOT to straighten my hair, but I know other Naturalites who faced this very same issue.

So what say you good people...Would you straighten your hair for a potential dream job interview?

CUTIE-PA-TOOTIE

I saw this in the store and had to share!! She is just too cute! And ALL that hair...well let's just say *iDie* S/O to all the Natural kiddies in advertising :)

In other news, I hope you're having a Happy Monday!! I sure am

INQUIRING MINDS: WHEN'S MY NATUR-VERSARY

I'm trying to figure out when my anniversary is. At what point are you considered Natural? Is it from your last perm or when you've completely chopped the last of your relaxer off?

I love this pic BTW, it's so fitting S/O to A Natural Hair Groove...ok, so I consider you to be a Naturalite when you've COMPLETELY chopped off what was left of your relaxer, unless of course you BC'd then it'd start that day.

The transition period, I don't consider b/c you still have relaxed hair. My Transition period lasted about 14 months. I chopped in between, but my hair was growing so fast it only took at most 4 chops (and because she was chopping hella inches at a time, lolol).

So in my world, you're Transitioner until you've done your last BC, then you're a full fledge Naturalite **OW OW**

Hope this helps you guys in determining your Natur-versary!!

HAPPY NATUR-VERSARY to anyone who became a Naturalite this quarter!! Keep it goin!!

1...BREATHE...2...BREATHE...3...BREATHE...

My sentiments EXACTLY!! I bout blew a gasket!!

Here's the scoop:

A friend recommended her stylist to another friend so she went. She said he sounded like he knows his natural stuff, but...he told her that you should never go 6 months without straightening your hair. He said wearing it curly your ends are not sealed, the blow dryer is not terrible for your hair because spending the same time under the dryer dries out your scalp. Straightening every two weeks makes the hair more manageable. He said he can tell when people do their own natural hair cause the ends look unkempt. He said her hair was resisting going straight.

So now can you see why I almost blew a gasket?? Let’s break this particular stylist’s POVs down.

He told her that you should never go 6 months without straightening your hair wearing it curly your ends are not sealed. UM SIR – where are you getting your facts?? I know plenty of NATURAL women who don't get their hair straightened for years and it's GORGEOUS. So what if you’ve BC’d and don’t have enough hair to get it straightened are you saying it’s still not going to be healthy… I digress… I don’t know what he meant by sealed, but there are plenty of ways to seal your ends isn't that the point of ProStyling, Baggie-ing, etc... *justsayin*

Straightening every two weeks makes the hair more manageable – NO what it actually does is causes you to lose your naturally curly texture *BEENthereDONEthat* Your hair is manageable whether it’s straight or curly. It’s all about knowing how to manage your hair. Clearly he wants those duckets :/ and furthermore that much heat can be damaging especially in the summer time when you already have the sun...

He said he can tell when people do their own natural hair cause the ends look unkempt. – I beg to differ…but that’s all I’m gonna say.

He said her hair was resisting going straight – NO you just didn’t know how to do it properly. Yes I’ll admit, it’s pretty scary to get your hair to straightened after months of not, but all you (or your stylist) need to do is to put your back into it and you’re good…check my hair. It may take a little longer, but it CAN be done WITHOUT resistance. He may need a tutorial or two.

I don't know about you, but homeboy does not sound like he knows what he's doing AT ALL. I would have to cut him loose. It seems to me that all he knows how to do with us Naturalites {and Transitioners} is straighten us.
Natural hair is too versatile to be conformed to just straightened hair, unless that's what YOU want. But as for me and my hair, the sky is the limit and I will not let a stylist try to limit me based upon their limited styling capabilities.

What are your thoughts??

HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR

Well 2011 is officially here!! This weekend was CRAZY for me, I had a surprise visit from my mom :O so that put a sudden halt to any plans I had b/c I didn't quite get my New Year's cleaning done *laziness* (My grandma would kill me if she found out). Other than that I had a pretty amazing time reflecting and planning :)

Speaking of planning, here's my top 3 goals for the first quarter of 2k11:

  • Increase Blog Membership - SHOUT OUT TO ALL MY FAITHFUL READERS, *iHEARTy'all*

  • Expand my twisting/braiding capabilities - um...definitely a work in progress

  • Have another hair event - I have this one covered, but I'm open to ideas moving forward

What are you hair goals for 2011?

OH YEAH!! a little birdie dropped the whole line of Design Essentials Natural products in my lap...LITERALLY lololol, so my inner PJ was fed :) Reviews to come!
